Luck be a lady

I have many things to write about - a baby nephew named Kaden, a new embroidery hobby and a recent car co-op directorship, to name a few - but no time to give these topics their due (check my flickr account for evidence of the first two). I do have time to tell you about the success of a tentative plan that I've been pursuing for months: I've been entering my name in every draw that comes my way, trying to reconnect with the luck of my youth. It finally proved fruitful at the Victoria Car Share Co-op barbeque last night, when I won two tickets to the Organic Islands Festival this weekend. I know the tickets are only worth $15 combined, but I have to start somewhere, right? If you live in Victoria, let me know if you want to join me.

Hey lady. Congratulations! I didn't realize you were a lucky youth. If all that luck comes back in droves and starts to feel like a burden, send some of it my way. I just entered a contest which I'm determined to win. I don't want to jinx it though, so I won't tell you the details just yet...

Congrats on your big win! We should celebrate all windfalls, big or small. I won $175 in a hospital lottery last summer and told practically everyone I met about it.

My mom is a great contest enter-er. Some of the things she's won include: trip for two to Mexico, helicopter ride, concert tickets, completed works of Margaret Atwood, weekend at a mountain resort...She'll write songs or poems for contests, not just the put your name on a slip of paper kind.

Congrats on your win and keep at it!

I've never entered contests that require additional work, but maybe I should consider it. When I was in highschool I often won t-shirt draws, etc, but during my first year of university I won a laptop computer and a big easter basket in one week. The computer is useless now, but it was so fancy at the time. I still don't know why I won it; I assume all students were entered in a random draw? Who knows. I want to win a trip to Mexico now!

The festival was great, by the way. Because we had free entry, Zoe and I decided we had money to burn; she bought some great recycled glass glasses and I found some frames made out of coiled newspaper. Fun!
